Long before the Red Cross was established, Bhai Ghanayya Ji a devout Sikh of Guru Gobind Singh Ji set a great example of selfless service. He did not let any idea of discrimination cross his head while on the battlefield after a war, whether the soldier belonged the Sikh or the Mughal armies.
He dressed their wounds and gave them water without any consideration. The great Guru delivered his great message "Mankind is One, should be recognised as such" by blessing Bhai Ghanayya with a pat he gave him a pack of ointment to be applied to the wounds of one and all. Imbibing the same spirit Bhai Ghanayya Ji Charitable Trust (Regd) has established Unique Home with an aim "Moral, Social, Cultural and Economic uplift of orphan children without any distinction of Caste, Creed and Religion".
Bhai Ghanayya Ji Charitable Trust (Regd) was established on May 17th 1993. It is running an institution at 1082-B, Model House, Jalandhar under the name and style of Unique Home and is looking after unwanted, unclaimed or orphan female children whom the society shuns by declaring illegitimate. The trust aims to raise these children as healthy individuals and educate them.
Mata Gurdip Kaur Ji, who is linked to many religious and social organisations is president of Bhai Ghanayya Ji Charitable Trust (Regd) and despite her advancing years is fully devoted to the service of the children. Yet the main spirit behind this institution is Bibi Prakash Kaur Ji. She is burning midnight oil for the uplift of these children. In fact she has set the rehabilitation of these dregs of society as human beings as a goal of her life, but the struggle to restore the lost human rights of an individual is a life long struggle.
To raise these children as enlightened and self respecting citizens and restore them their due place in society is a very hard task that requires a mass, social effort. We appeal to all kind hearted people to come forward with all possible means to help this worthwhile and humanitarian cause.
Prakash Kaur (Bibi Ji)
Prakash Kaur who is the main spirit behind the home, has set her life goal to raise these children as respecting citizens. She says:
“I see these children as mine. They are not abandoned and are never made to feel that they were abandoned. Seeing the smile on their face fills my heart with joy.”
